The Switchback project is a RestoMod project. My goal is to restore the car very close to the original, except for a few safety and fun updates.
A restomod consists of two distinct components: restoration and modification. The vehicle’s body is completely restored so it appears to be in like-new condition. Looking at it solely from an exterior standpoint, it shouldn’t be obvious that the car didn’t just roll off the assembly line a few moments before.
The second part of the restomod concept is when the vehicle is modified. This typically centers on improvements made in the name of handling, safety, performance, and other elements. Since the vehicle has been both restored and modified, it’s now a restomod.

Export Brace
This reproduction has the reinforcing contours not quite as deep and crisp as the original Ford brace. The one piece export brace replaces the original two piece braces and exponentially increases the rigidity between the shock towers and cowl area. Originally designed for export cars where the roads tended to be more rough than US roads and the extra stiffness helped to keep shock tower flex to a minimum. The brace keeps the shock towers from collapsing inward and keeps camber adjustments more consistent.

Wilwood's Classic Series front disc brake kits for 1965 to 1969 Ford Mustangs offer disc brake upgrade solutions for OEM drum or disc spindles. These kits feature the FDL-M four piston forged aluminum caliper and 11.30" diameter x 0.94” thick one-piece rotors. The FDL-M caliper is a modified version of the time-tested Forged Dynalite caliper, and provides the greatest amount of wheel clearance of any four piston caliper in its size class. The OEM style one-piece cast iron rotors with integrated hubs simplify installation while providing superb dimensional stability and wear resistance. These versatile kits are easily optioned to suit the braking requirements and style preferences for a daily driver or the most discriminating show enthusiast. Intended vehicle applications require no modifications for installation, and clear most 14" OEM disc brake wheels. Kits will not fit OEM drum brake wheels. Classic Series FDL-M kits can be used with either manual or power boost master cylinders, and come complete with calipers, rotors, brackets, hardware, flex lines and detailed installation instructions.

Wilwood Aluminum Tandem Master for Classic Mustang
Wilwood’s Tandem Aluminum Master Cylinder for Mustangs comes with the correct pushrod; a 15/16" bore, and is available in 3 finishes; plain, ball burnished, and black e-coat. These master cylinders are designed primarily for manual applications and include the correct pushrod for the factory 64-72 brake pedal. They’re designed for mount flanges from 3.22” to 3.40”, which match the 64-72 factory manual master cylinder mount, and offer fluid outlet ports on both sides of the bore. The stroke is set at 1.10” with a volume ratio of 2:1 between the primary and secondary chambers. Machined from high-pressure die castings, each master cylinder weighs only 3lbs, a 75% weight savings over most cast iron OE type master cylinders. We also offer a combination proportioning valve kit, which includes brackets and stainless lines specifically for use with this master cylinder, see PN 260-13190, or 220-13189 for retrofit kit.

Ford AOD Overdrive Transmission
The AOD (for automatic overdrive) is a four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. Introduced in 1980, it was Ford's first four-speed automatic overdrive transmission. The gearset design is based on the Ford "X" automatic transmissions used during the 1950s, 60s and 70s. The AOD replaced many of Ford's older transmissions such as the C4, C5 and light duty applications of the FMX.
